Microneedling with or without PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Over the years, the body’s production of collagen and elastin will start to diminish, causing the skin to lose its youthful shape and structure. Tissues can start to sag and wrinkle, which in turn, quickly adds years onto the appearance. Aside from the normal aging process, decades of sun damage, the harsh environment, smoking, stress, illness, acne scars, weight fluctuations, and genetics only further exacerbate these skin changes. Traditionally, ablative laser and chemical treatments have been used to improve skin’s texture and tone, although these techniques can provide significant improvements, often they are harsh, and can lead to excessive down time and side-effects such as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Luckily, at The Naderi Center, our skilled experienced licensed medical master aestheticians offer patients a revolutionary option to restore beautiful, youthful skin with much lower risk and very little downtime: Microneedling with or without PRP.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also referred to as Percutaneous Induction Needling (PIN), is a cutting-edge technique designed to trigger the skin’s own healing process. Creating thousands of microscopic injuries in the tissues encourage the production of vital growth factors, including collagen and elastin, which restore a youthful appearance. The minimally invasive PIN procedure uses a small hand-piece, uniquely designed to deliver multiple, tiny wounds to the target tissue. As the body reacts to these micro-wounds, the natural healing properties take over, kick-starting collagen and elastin production. Over the next several months, the skin’s repair system will plump tissues, smoothing wrinkles and creating a firmer, tauter texture. Years can be erased from the appearance, without the expense or potential side-effects from a more invasive, ablative laser or chemical peel procedure.
- Smooth wrinkles and deep facial lines
- Reduce acne scars, keloid, and surgical scars
- Shrink large pores
- Improve skin texture, tone and color
- Reduce stretch marks
- Improve sun damage, melisma and hyperpigmentation
The Microneedling technique can be customized for each individual patient’s unique needs. The Naderi Center’s PIN procedure can be used to improve the appearance of thick areas of tissue, like that of the lips, cheeks, and décolletage, as well as adapted for delicate tissue around the eyes and forehead. Microneedling can be used to smooth tissue and reduce scars or stretchmarks almost anywhere on the body, including the abdomen, breasts, and thighs.
How is Microneedling performed?
At the Naderi Center, every Microneedling procedure is performed in a comfortable treatment room. Depending on the target area and the extent of correction, most Microneedling sessions will take less than an hour. Prior to treatment, a topical or local anesthetic will be applied, maximizing patient comfort. Additionally, a topical serum may be applied to the skin immediately before or after the Microneedling procedure. Once the target area has been determined, the skin is prepped and the patient is comfortably positioned, a sterile applicator, containing 12 to 36 tiny needles, will glide over the tissue in a single pass. The PIN handpiece will create a series of microscopic channels in the skin, at a customized, predetermined depth. Once the Microneedling procedure is complete, patients are free to return to their daily routine within 24-48 hours.
Between three and six micro-needling “PIN” treatment sessions are required for optimal results, although the exact number will depend on the individual patient. Those with more severe sun damage, severe wrinkles, or deep scaring will require the greatest number of sessions. Patients will need to space treatments out approximately four to six weeks apart, giving tissues time to heal between sessions
At The Naderi Center, the device or hand-piece used is the absolute best available on the market with more power and more depth of penetration providing a much better treatment and potentially much better results than ones performed in spas or medi-spas.

What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?
PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is a procedure where a patient’s blood is drawn, placed in a test tube and then centrifuged to discard the blood cells and concentrate the plasma with its own autologous platelets. This platelet rich plasma will have growth factors and cytokines that stimulate the healing mechanism of the immune system. When PRP is combined with microneedling the results and benefits achieved are enhanced.
How do I get started with Microneedling in Virginia?
Microneedling can provide dramatic results for almost anyone looking for a safe, minimally invasive method to rejuvenate their appearance. As the PIN technique is gentle on the skin, the method is safe for all ages, skin types, and ethnicities. An ideal candidate will be in overall good health and understand the Microneedling process and its limitations. Patients should have reasonable expectations for their Microneedling results. Those with an active skin infection will have to postpone their PIN treatment. One single session of micro needling does not give the same results as one session of aggressive CO2 laser or Baker-Gordon peel or Hetter chemical peel but 3-6 sessions do provide dramatic results with much lower risk and downtime.
Prior to scheduling a Microneedling session at the Naderi Center, a personalized consultation will be arranged with our Licensed Master Aesthetician. At this time, the provider will perform a quick examination of the tissues and discuss treatment goals. The Microneedling procedure will be explained, as well as any other appropriate treatments. During the consultation, additional cosmeceutical medical grade creams or lotions may also be suggested or additional procedures such as Ultherapy that can further compliment the results from Microneedling. When skin treatments like skin care and micro needling is combined with anti aging lifting techniques like Ultherapy as well as conservative Botox Cosmetic or a dermal fillers, comprehensive skin rejuvenation is achieved.
What can I expect from my Microneedling recovery?
Microneedling from the Naderi Center does not require any significant downtime, so patients are able to return to work, school, and all commitments within 24-48 hours or less usually. It is common for the treated area to be bloody, red and swollen for the first 12 to 24 hours, however this will usually quickly resolve. The PIN procedure is gentler and less damaging than traditional dermal rolling or ablative treatment methods. Micro-needling results in few side-effects, however in rare cases, pigmentation changes can occur. During the Micro-needling consultation, our licensed medical master aestheticians will go into detail about the best skincare routine for the PIN with or without PRP recovery, and any potential complications.
Many patients will begin to notice their initial results only a few days after a Microneedling treatment. After 10-14 days, as the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin increase, the skin will become plumper, smoother, and tighter. Over the following several months, new tissue will form, bringing healthy cells to the surface of the skin, further improving the appearance.

What does microneedling entail, and why is it done?
Microneedling (also known as Percutaneous Induction Needling or PIN) is a method of using a device equipped with tiny needles to make tiny, shallow injuries to the skin, prompting the body’s natural healing processes to kick in. By stimulating collagen production and cell turnover in the skin, the body gradually creates younger, healthier-looking skin. Microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure that is done to improve the tone and texture of the skin, while creating anti-aging results. The procedure can also be used to reduce pore size, acne scars, and sun damage.
How long does the procedure take?
Because the treatments are minimally invasive, they can be performed in an office setting. Each treatment usually takes under an hour, allowing patients to get back to their busy schedules more quickly. Patients should expect to undergo multiple treatments spaced several weeks apart to see good results.
What is the expected downtime?
Though the procedure is minimally invasive, it does involve injury to the skin, and patients will probably want to take a few days to recover before returning to work or school – this varies from patient to patient. As a results of microneedling, some patients may encounter some bruising or flushing of the skin; each recovery is unique. There is often some bleeding, redness, and swelling present immediately after each treatment, which patients often do not wish for others to see. This should resolve quickly, as the injuries are shallow.
When will I see the results?
Though you will start seeing results soon after the treatment (within a few days), more substantial improvement will start becoming apparent within about 10-14 days. Continued collagen production will ensure that results continue to improve over the course of several months, especially with an adequate number of microneedling treatments.
How many treatments are recommended?
Everyone is different, with different goals and different levels of aging. However, most patients should expect to need three to six treatments for satisfactory results. These treatments must be spaced out over time, in order to give the skin enough time to heal. Typically, appointments are scheduled every 4-6 weeks.
How does microneedling work?
As we age, collagen production slows down. Collagen is the connective protein that gives skin its firm and youthful appearance, and as collagen levels in the skin begin to dip, the skin begins to wrinkle and sag. Microneedling works by carefully making micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. A special handpiece, usually equipped with 12-36 tiny needles is passed over the treatment areas. When the body experiences an injury, big or small, it responds with additional collagen and elastin production, creating firmer, more elastic skin that appears more youthful. Because of this, the precise control and depth of the tiny needles allows the skin to experience consistent rejuvenation and very little downtime. Eventually, new collagen production slows down again, but patients can get long-lasting anti-aging results with very little downtime.
What makes someone a good candidate for microneedling?
The great news about microneedling is that it is safe for most healthy adults who would like to improve the tone, texture, and appearance of the skin. Good candidates will be willing to commit to a series of treatments, and should have realistic expectations for the results of the procedure.
What makes someone a poor candidate for microneedling?
Though microneedling is a great option for treating many different skin issues, it’s not the right choice for everyone. Patients who are undergoing radiation treatment or have an active skin infection should not undergo the treatment. Additionally, those with a history of poor wound healing, or people who have used Accutane acne treatments within the last 3 months are not good candidates. It’s important to be honest with your doctor when determining candidacy, so he or she can ensure you choose the procedure that is right for you, and above all, a treatment that is safe for your needs.
Does it hurt?
The name “microneedling” might lead you to believe that the procedure is painful, but the injuries to the skin are very tiny. It’s even gentle enough to use on sensitive areas like the lips and around the eyes. We use a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure as well, so patients are usually able to tolerate treatments without issue.
What device do you use?
PIN microneedling uses a specialized handpiece equipped with about 12-36 needles. This device is passed over the treatment area, creating thousands of tiny punctures in the skin.
What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It’s a treatment that involves using the patient’s own plasma, which is rich in growth factors, to help patients heal and rejuvenate the skin more quickly. First, blood is drawn from the patient, then processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood cells and concentrate the platelets and growth factors that help allow for faster healing. Then, the PRP is injected back into the body to help stimulate healing. It is often used to enhance the results of many different treatments, including microneedling.
What is the difference between micro needling with PRP and without PRP?
Microneedling as a standalone procedure helps stimulate collagen and stimulate the body’s healing processes. When combined with PRP injections, the plasma helps enhance healing further, creating even better results for patients.
